We choose gilts/sows who show great form. The girls should have wonderful demeanors, and have good body structure condusive to carrying and caring for large litters. Mothering instinct is key with your herd moms!
Gilt or Sow?
A female piglet is called a "Gilt". Once she has her first litter, she then becomes a "Sow".
